Harmattan Theater is a multi-lingual, multinational, cross disciplinary, New York City based performance group committed to an environmentally and socially engaged theater.

We take our inspiration from the transaharan Harmattan wind whose ochre dust clouds blow across Northern Africa to the Americas as a conduit of dispersal.

Harmattan Theater is a response to global climate change and its impact on local communities and the built environment. We are committed to artistically challenging performances that explore ecological concerns.

Our projects investigate how history, public spaces and urban pasts shape our understanding of urban futures in New York City. Waterfronts, islands, dilapidated piers, underground rivers, superfund sites, brown fields and marshes are our inspirations.

Harmattan's collaborations bridge national, linguistic and artistic boundaries, allowing uneasy and irreconcilable views to engage with the public sphere.
